Website and Blog for the Sam McMahon Trust

Friends

There are many, many friends of The Trust – we’d like to mention a few here.

Owen Fitzpatrick

Owen took part in two Dublin City Marathons in 2010 and 2011, raising a significant amount of money for the Trust. Congratulations on your achievement and thank you for thinking of Sam.

Irish artists Kevin Flood & Harry Feeney help Sam

During the past couple of months two wonderful Irish artists have been very kind to the Sam McMahon Trust.

Sam’s grandmother Clare, a keen artist, attended workshops given by Kevin Flood and Harry Feeney. When Clare told them about Sam and Friedreich’s Ataxia they each very generously gave paintings that we could use to raise funds.

Kevin Flood from Co Longford paints in oils, watercolours and pastels. His work has featured in many public collections including Westmeath and Fingal County Councils. If you would like to find out more about Kevin and his work you can visit his website here.

Harry Feeney, originally from Derry city now lives in Mayo. He began seriously painting in 1990 and by 1995 gave up his day job and focused on his painting career. He does quite a lot of commission work and runs workshops for budding artists. To find out more about Harry’s work or to get information about his painting courses, click here.

King of Greystones

The annual fundraising triathlon that takes place each August made Sam’s Trust and FARA beneficiaries this year.  We are extremely grateful to the committee for including the Sam.  Special mention is due to the committee who work tirelessly each year to raise funds for causes which include Aware, The Alzheimers Society, The Wicklow Hospice and the Bray Lakers.

Ballyboden GAA and the Under 12 Hurling manager Andrew Coffey

This June (2010) Andrew organised and coordinated a raffle in aid of the Sam McMahon Trust. With a shirt signed by the Dublin team and 2 tickets to Westlife (donated anonymously!) the raffle was a great success. Thank you Andrew! Thanks also to all of those who bought tickets and supported the event.

Flora Women’s Mini Marathon

Three amazing women, Rita Archbold, Colette Clarke and Susan Egan took part in the 2009 Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday June 1st for Sam. Susan O’Halloran did the 2010 & 2011 Mini Marathons for Sam. By competing in the biggest all-women’s event of its kind in the world, they raised money for Sam.  Thanks and well done to each of you. We appreciate your kindness.

Thanks also to all of you who so generously sponsored the ladies. We don’t know who you are but we would like to salute you and recognise your generosity.

Patrick Walsh

Author Patrick Walsh has kindly donated his January 2010 royalty cheque to the Sam McMahon Trust. That was very thoughtful of you. Thanks Patrick!

Dell

The staff of Dell in Cherrywood,  have spent the past few months fund raising for the Sam McMahon Trust. A number of events were organised and Sam was thrilled to be invited to a special presentation. Thanks to all who organised the events, donated money and continue to support the Sam McMahon Trust.

Larry Lawless and Declan Browne

On July 3rd 2009  two great guys, Larry Lawless and Declan Browne undertook the huge challenge of a cycle from Dublin to Rosslare. Although neither of them had cycled this distance before they covered over 115km in six hours and twenty minutes and raised valuable funds for the Sam McMahon Trust. Thanks guys. We think you’re great!

Coláiste Éanna

The staff of Coláiste Éanna have been involved in supporting the Sam McMahon Trust since Sam’s diagnosis in November ’08. Your kindness, generosity and continued support is very much appreciated.
